Ubaldo time tonight; chat time tomorrow

Good evening.

After last night’s loss to the Giants, the Rockies turn to right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez. This time last year, it was almost a sure thing. Jimenez was baseball’s hottest pitcher, and the Rockies always seemed to be turning to him after a loss.

This time, though, is different. Jimenez is coming off a thumb injury that has kept him off the mound since Opening Day. And, yes, the Rockies fell to the Giants, 8-1, last night, but losses — even without Jimenez — have been few and far between.

We’ll see what happens, then we can talk about it.

Tomorrow at 10 a.m. MT, please feel free to join me for a chat on MLB.com. I’ll be there answering questions and talking baseball for about a half-hour. Please register here:

You arre not using your shoulder as well as you did last year and losing some of the whip action. You are bringing your arm over a little farther out. Look at the video from behind you and you will notice the difference.

I’ve noticed that Ubaldo has only pitched day games so far this year, which seems unusual. It could be coincidence, but it’s enough to make me wonder if something is wrong with his eyes….

The Rockies are so disappointing lately. Every time they seem to have the game in their hands, something goes wrong and they lose it. Or, they never even had a chance to win, because they can’t get more than one run per game! It seems like they need a serious wake up call, and to start hitting when they need it. The defense doesn’t seem to be a problem, it’s practically everything else.

Garrett! Great hearing from you. We need to talk soemtime.
