Needing offense, or some semblance of it

The Rockies are without shortstop Troy Tulowitzki for Wednesday night’s game with the Astros. Manager Jim Tracy’s position on Tuesday night was to use Omar Quintanilla at shortstop, with Clint Barmes at second base.

But when he determined his lineup card, Tracy went with Ian Stewart at second and Barmes at short.

Manager Jim Tracy’s position was Stewart poses more of an offensive threat than Quintanilla. Even Tracy said the Astros won’t be fearing Stewart’s .177 batting average. But Stewart has three hits off the Astros this year. All are home runs.

Here are the lineups for Wednsday:

Dexter Fowler, CF

Clint Barmes, SS

Todd Helton, 1B

Brad Hawpe, RF

Garrett Atkins, 3B

Seth Smith, LF

Ian Stewart, 2B

Paul Phillips, C

Jason Marquis, P

Michael Bourn, CF

Miguel Tejada, SS

Hunter Pence, RF

Carlos Lee, LF

Lance Berkman, 1B

Ivan Rodriguez, C

Geoff Blum, 3B

Edwin Maysonet, 2B

Brian Moehler, P

I guess Hurdle wasn’t the only problem with the team. This offense has under-achieved all year. There are a few brights spots, like Helton and Hawpe, but the rest have struggled. AND we need some of the pitchers on the DL back…soon. Just my opinion, of course, but it’s pretty “craptacular” right now. It’s really hard to be a Rockies fan when alot of people are struggling with their jobs and would be fired if they produced like many of the Rockies are doing this year.

I have been saying it since early in the season and I will say it again, especially after last night’s game — they must sit Atkins. He has been on the decline since the second half of last season. Good question to Jim after the game last night about this very problem, Thomas. Play Stewart at third, who can at least hit it out of the park on occasion, and Q at second, at least until Tulo gets back. The Rockies will just have to eat the $7 million they are paying Atkins. Guess they should have traded him in the off season — now we will be lucky to get anything for him.

Great article but it didn’t have evteyrhing—I didn’t find the kitchen sink!
