Not keeping count
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle was asked before Monday’s season-opener what number Opening Day it is for him, counting his playing, coaching and managing career in the Majors.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I haven’t counted them up. I’m not gonna.
“Like Frank Sinatra said at his last birthday, all I want is another one.”
Hurdle is in the last year of his contract, so it’s appropriate that all’s well if he gets another Opening Day.

Man, sitting behind homeplate at Chase Field, I wish I could figure out what happened opening day… I wonder if you thought the same from the press box.

Wanna know what I think? Chase Field is a hitter’s park, maybe not like Coors and certainly not like the pre-humidor Coors. But games can get really funky when pitchers aren’t hitting their spots. Aaron Cook simply couldn’t get pitches where he wanted them and Brandon Webb didn’t look like himself mechanically. The result was when both of the tried to sink pitches, the ball ran over the middle of the plate and sideways as if someone put a steel ball in the baseball and a magnet right over the plate about the height of a batter’s thighs.
