The last days of sweat …

Manager Clint Hurdle announced the position players for his Opening Day roster, but until the team takes the field Monday against the D-backs no one can be sure.

This makes for nervous moments for some players.

— Utility man Jeff Baker is considered a player who could hit for power with regular playing time. Manager Clint Hurdle will try to find that for him, but there’s always a shot that another team with a greater opportunity for him at third base may want to make a trade.

— It looks as if right-hander Juan Morillo will make the squad. Morillo is out of options but has pitched well enough in camp to earn a job. However, the Denver Post reported Wednesday that the Rockies are considering trading for the Rays’ Jason Hammel, a starter type, or the Cubs’ Chad Gaudin.

Right-hander Matt Belisle, who looks to be the odd man out with the Rockies, also is in a fluid situation, since deals could open a spot for him here or something could pop elsewhere.

Hey Thomas!

I just wanted to let you know I linked your blog on Tight Ends and Hot Rox! I enjoy reading your posts, I can’t wait to read more.

Mr. Harding

I don’t know why the Rockies would let a talented player like Morillo go to another team. I think that a lot of people have forgotten that the KID is only 23 years old and has a tremendous outlook infront of him. Trading for Chad Gaudin or Jason Hammel is just a dumb move in my opinion, because we have so much depth already for starting pitchers, even if one struggles, we have so many at the Triple A level. In your opinion, do you think keeping Morillo would be logical, or is it worth it to keep Belisile and get another starter?
Also, I went to spring training March 7-11 and met you outside. I was picked for bat boy and I forget the guy’s name that picked me. He goes to Pima Community College and will be working the away clubhouse next year. I believe he was the clubhouse assistant possibly? I just want to send a thank you to him if thats possible. If you can just let me know anything you can find out, my email is Thank you!

Katie, thanks so much for the link, and I’ll follow your thoughts on Jay Cutler on your blog. That situation has gone crazy. And, Doug, I’ll see if I can get you some info …
